I have to say Maria and Mathilde have compiled a formidable volume of info on nanotech here. I'm a student doing my dissertation and have returned time and again to your "Reviews of nano tech risks" references. A real wealth of info here ... thank you so much.

Paint big change "toxic" material that the children paint hazards. pellet mill

Maria Powell | Tue, 2012-02-07 15:57

I'd like to get more information about this situation (lung disease in a bathroom paint factory potentially related to nanoparticles).

Can you send me a link to more information? The link above doesn't seem to work.

Thanks!
Maria

It's troubling to think that nanotechnology has already made its way into our food supply, as well as so many other aspects of life. Just a decade ago I recall reading sci-novels about nanotechnology, and believing it to be somewhere off in the future. Who would have thought that it would have come so far so fast? We don't realize what we've gotten ourselves into.

Nanotechnology has always brought out many advancement in the field of technology. But really it is astonishing to read about the health risks involved with it. It is definitely not a small matter when we face such great risks. Such researches and tests are very imperative to analyze the extent of such nano particles in environment. The most shocking revelation is that such nanotechnology materials are there in the sunscreens and cosmetics. Nano technology is a very advantageous technology, but something should be done to lower its side effects.

In order to discuss the risks of nanotechnology we need to take a closer look at these nanostructures. The mere presence of nanomaterials is not in itself a threat. It is only certain aspects that can make them risky, in particular their mobility and their increased reactivity. Only if certain properties of certain nanoparticles were proven harmful to living beings or the environment would we be faced with a genuine hazard.

Nano technology promises many thing and a unbelievable future but the risk is if the technology is in wrong hands then that will be a troubled thing as it also can be used as weapon of mass destruction
