U.S. Consumer Groups See Delay In Major U.S. Nanotech Regulation - Inside US Trade, USA
U.S.-based consumer advocates that want a new U.S. approach to regulating chemical substances including nanomaterials said this week that such a major overhaul will not likely take place this year as it would involve the revision of the 1976 Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).When Congress takes up a revision of the TSCA, possibly as early as next year, it will likely involve a major fight over the regulation of nanomaterials.
TACD To Urge EU, U.S. To Work On Nanotechnology Regulation - Inside US Trade, USA
Consumer groups participating in the Transatlantic Consumer Dialogue (TACD) next week will press the European Commission to go beyond current European Union law in regulating nanomaterials for possible health, environmental and workplace safety threats.
In comments to be presented to a June 10 consultation between stakeholders and the Directorate General for Health and Consumer Affairs (DG SANCO), the TACD will also urge the EU to coordinate its regulatory approach with the U.S., which they see as lagging behind the EU in this area.
