State rep Terese Berceau takes lead on efforts to track nanoparticles - Isthmus, USA

Wisconsin Rep. Terese Berceau (D-Madison) has called on the Departments of Natural Resources, Health and Family Services, and Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection to require private companies that manufacture nanoparticles to disclose the types of particles they're making and in what amount.
"It's not an attempt to regulate, it's an attempt to get information".

A White House panel expressed concern Tuesday (Jan. 8) that fiscal 2008
funding is lacking for research on the environmental, health and safety
implications of nanotechnology. Members of the President's Council on
Science and Technology (PCAST) said they may prepare a document
expressing their disappointment in the funding Congress set aside for
the American Competitiveness Initiative

Dr. Raj Bawa explains to Nanowerk: "Interventions based on nanotechnologies likely will resurrect old questions about human enhancement, human dignity, and justice that have been asked many times before in the context of pharmaceutic research, stem cell research, and gene therapy."
